District Regional Cafe Manager, NYC
At Matchaful, we are dedicated to transforming the matcha experience by serving premium, high-quality matcha drinks and products in a welcoming and vibrant café environment. We take pride in our artisanal approach to matcha, ensuring that each cup embodies the essence of authentic Japanese tea culture. Our mission is to create a memorable experience for every customer, driven by our commitment to quality, sustainability, and exceptional service.
Position Overview:
The District Regional Cafe Manager has the responsibility of overseeing all senior café leadership and the overall performance of NYC Matchaful cafés. This role requires a passion for Matcha, exceptional leadership skills, and a strong focus on retail growth and the highest standards of quality and customer satisfaction. The District Regional Cafe Manager will lead a team of dedicated managers and retail staff across 9 Matchaful locations to drive the growth and success of our café business, setting a standard of excellence that will allow Matchaful to expand further across NYC and in other markets.
The District Regional Cafe Manager will report directly to the CEO/Director of Operations. They will directly manage all NYC General Managers and Assistant Store Leads where applicable.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Excellence:
- Oversee all aspects of café operations, including but not limited to staffing, inventory management, quality assurance, SOPs, and financial performance.
- Ensure adherence to Matchaful’s operational standards and procedures, including food safety, cleanliness, and quality control.
- Monitor and analyze sales data, customer feedback, and operational metrics to identify opportunities for improvement and growth.
- Oversee café floor deployment, ensuring clear station ownership, break compliance, and seamless daily operations.
- Lead hiring and team planning for current and upcoming new store openings, owning recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding.
- Update and maintain Retail, Pastry, and Grab & Go planograms across all cafes.
- Review timecards weekly and report any key observations to Director of Retail Ops
- Financial Management:
- Oversee café net sales, including forecasting, cost control, and financial targets.
- Conduct weekly and monthly COGS review calls with Cafe Leadership to review waste and AVT reports.
- Inspire Cafe Leadership and their teams to meet their KPI goals, including P&L, waste, labor, sales, and review targets.
- Prepare reports on KPI tracking to Director of Ops as needed
- Drive labor efficiency by partnering with GMs to build data-informed schedules using historical trends and forecasting.
- Present ideas to improve operational efficiency to achieve financial targets and profitability.
- Handle cash management and ensure accurate financial transactions and records.
- Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and labor regulations. Ensure all NYC stores get or maintain A restaurant grades.
- Conduct regular Cafe Audit inspections to maintain a clean and safe working environment for both staff and customers.
- Review timecards for Cafe Leadership, ensuring minimum requirements are being met and break compliance is upheld.
- Implement and monitor safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Team Leadership an Development:
- Manage Matchaful store teams, conducting weekly meetings with store leadership, while fostering a positive, collaborative and productive work environment.
- Lead and grow teams, focusing on development and empowerment of Cafe Management and their teams.
- Lead hiring and team planning for existing cafes and future New Store Openings.
- Support bar operations as needed across opening, mid, and closing shifts.
- Creates initiatives to drive team culture and positive team morale across all locations.
- Develop intentional training and company growth plans for new café leaders, ensuring a strong understanding of all aspects of café operations and company mission.
- Share team accomplishments, promotions, and weekly reporting on Slack.
- Conduct quarterly performance reviews for direct reports, providing constructive feedback, and supporting professional development.
- Lead by example, demonstrating a strong work ethic, exceptional customer service, and a passion for Matcha and our offerings.
- Demonstrate ER (Employee Relations) and HR (Human Resources) knowledge, collaborating cross-functionally with high-level communication abilities.
- Customer Experience:
- Inspire team to improve Google Ratings across all cafes and ensure new stores launch with high reviews by working with Sr. Cafe Leadership to improve service standards and quality of drinks.
- Ensure all team members are following our Guest Journey Map and that every customer receives a memorable and high-quality experience, from the moment they enter the café to their departure.
- Identify high level customer trends and create and implement solutions for improvement.
- Coaching and developing Cafe Leadership on guest experience and operations, ensuring an elevated experience.
- Address and resolve customer concerns or complaints in a timely and professional manner.
- Implement and uphold customer service standards that reflect Matchaful’s commitment to excellence.
- Sales and Marketing:
- Collaborate with the marketing team to execute local marketing initiatives and promotions to drive foot traffic and increase sales.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to implement brand strategies and enhance the café’s visibility and reputation.
- Help to execute on-site brand partnership events as needed, and work closely with Training Manager to ensure all team members are trained on seasonal offerings and presentation.
- Monitor market trends and competitor activity to stay informed and competitive.
- Monitor holiday, store closure hours, and opening hours changes across Google, Yelp, and third party ordering apps
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, or a related field preferred.
- NYC Food Protection Certificate
- 3-5 years of experience in retail and/or F&B industry
- 2-5 years of multi-unit or similar leadership experience in fast-casual or full-service restaurant settings
- Experience with POS systems, inventory management software, restaurant management software, and basic financial reporting tools. Experience with MarketMan is a plus
- Experience reviewing P&Ls and and consistently achieving KPI targets
- Strong appreciation of Matcha and Japanese tea culture is a plus
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Commitment to delivering exceptional customer service and maintaining high-quality hospitality standards
- Strong decision-making and conflict resolution skills to navigate challenges effectively

Ritual Bar and Matcha Mill Experience Lead
About the Role:
Reporting to the Manager of Education, you will be responsible for leading the daily operations and educational programming at Matchaful’s brand new Ritual Bar and Stone Mill in Williamsburg. The Ritual Bar consists of a limited-seating tea tasting counter, focused on intimate experiences, storytelling, and tea education. Visitors will reserve seats for hands-on tea classes, guided tastings, and exclusive offerings.
You will receive hands-on education to lead reservation-only tastings and classes, execute unique beverages and experiences from our menu of rotating seasonal offerings with utmost precision, and become an invaluable source of knowledge about Japanese tea.
As Experience Lead, you will own grinding operations and command a strong understanding of proper equipment handling and production schedule, including loading tencha leaves and packing fresh ground matcha, maintaining a consistent cleaning schedule, and being able to walk guests through the grinding process from leaf to tin.
Finally, you will maintain a pristine, aesthetically pleasing, and organized environment, and uphold the highest level of customer service at both the Ritual Bar and in our cafes—all while forging unique connections with our staff and our guests.

Requirements:

Core responsibilities including but not limited to:
- Ensure the Ritual Bar and Grinding Room operate successfully:
- Devise plans to achieve monthly sales goals set by the Regional Leader and Manager of Education
- Ensure Ritual Bar is always prepared for a health inspection and support Williamsburg cafe staff with maintaining an inspection grade of “A”
- Attend weekly meetings with leadership to review priorities and sales goals
- Frequently communicate equipment issues or ingredient/supply shortages on items to Matchaful’s leadership team via Slack
- Conduct consistent or as-needed quality checks on all drinks/products
- Communicate closely with Store Lead to place orders from Commissary Kitchen.
- Label and date all fresh concentrates, milks, and produce to ensure nothing is used past its recommended date.
- Conduct weekly and monthly inventory counts. Enforce and maintain record-keeping of all food waste.
- Keep retail stocked on display shelves at all times and maintain a visually impeccable storefront according to planograms provided
- Keep Ritual Bar and surrounding customer areas clean and free of clutter at all times
- Act as a team player with the Williamsburg cafe team to ensure a seamless and best in class customer experience throughout the entire cafe space
- Uphold the mission of providing an educational experience for guests and cafe staff:
- Track and manage reservations for the Ritual Bar’s portfolio of experiences, including counter reservations, space rentals, corporate events, and classes
- Independently lead public-facing educational programming devised by the Manager of Education
- Provide detailed reports on classes to improve efficiency, engagement, and guest satisfaction
- Own all education related to matcha grinders–lead tours, educate staff and customers.
- Lead education sessions for new cafe employees on-site at the Ritual Bar
- Assist with other events, tastings, and demonstrations as necessary
- Own daily grinding operations and know the grinding process from leaf to tin:
- Maintain strict product quality standards and flag any defective product.
- Monitor inventory and report back to management whether production needs to be dialed up or down.
- Maintain the grinding room production schedule by closely monitoring input and output.
- Ensure that all Grinding Room equipment is in good operating condition and troubleshoot and report and equipment issues to leadership in a timely manner.
Compensation:
- Pay: $22.00 - $28.00 per hour

STORE LEAD

PREP CHEF
Matchaful Culinary Lab, Clinton Hill, Brooklyn NYC
$18-22/hr
Matchaful offers sustainable Japanese matcha and active botanical nutrition. We currently have (6) cafe locations in NYC, and we’re expanding this summer into Brooklyn! Our small team is passionate about leading the plant-based matcha + food movement in a sustainable, elevated and respectable way.
The Matchaful Culinary Lab in Clinton Hill will be the largest space we've been in yet, and it will feature our first dedicated culinary production facility as well as our signature Matchaful Café. At Matchaful, we make all of our concentrates for our creative lattes- such as the beloved ginger zing, secret garden, and cacao dream - in our very own kitchen. Over the past few years, we’ve also expanded our plant-based, gluten-free offerings to include a yuzu donut, vegan soft serve, matcha sunflower butter oats, and matcha sesame noodles…to name a few. Matchaful’s Grain-Free Granola that is now sold in grocery stores was actually developed in our café kitchen. The Matchaful Culinary Lab will be a space for innovation, experimentation, and nourishment! We can’t wait to give our loyal community a window into what we’re doing behind the scenes.
As Matchaful’s Prep Chef, you will be responsible for the preparation of our in-house food offerings, cleaning and organizing the space, and working directly under our Head Chef and Culinary Manager.

About the Prep Chef role:
- 3-4 days/week minimum commitment
- Prepare food to meet orders for all cafés daily
- Build prep kits for kitchen and set up production for success
- Communicate on Slack with managers about day to day tasks
- Follow best kitchen practices and follow all kitchen protocols
- Accurately label and store food items
- Maintain ingredient stocks
- Wash dishes and conduct daily cleaning tasks
- Must be able to commit to working early hours
- Must be willing to obtain a Food Protection Certificate if not already certified
- Record all production events in production log and kitchen waste log
- Assist with End of Month inventory accounts as needed
