Superpower Matchaful

Superpower Matchaful

Back away from the coffee maker. No, seriously. Why reach for a sugary latte when you could drink a Superpower Matchaful, a drink that will help you power through your day, sans 3 p.m. slump. Matcha contains L-Theanine, an antioxidant that, when combined with caffeine, gives you sustained energy and focus (things we all need a little more of). With a mix of coconut oil, organic grass-fed butter (a technique called “Bulletproofing” by Dave Asprey, author of The Bulletproof Diet), and a natural sweetener  - it’s the perfect combination of healthy and happy, every morning.

Coconut Oil

The medium-chain triglycerides (or MCT) found in coconut oil are easily digested and sent directly to your liver, where they can speed up your metabolism. They are immediately burned as “fuel,” instead of being stored as fat. Coconut oil also contains antioxidants which fight damage-causing free radicals in your body, meaning it promotes the growth of healthy cells. Being one of the most stable fats out there, adding coconut oil to your matcha is a great way to boost your metabolism, help balance your hormones, and promote overall health. Coconut oil adds a smooth thickness to your latte and a slightly nutty flavor, which compliments the earthiness of the matcha. In other words, delicious.

Grass-Fed Butter

Butter in a latte? Sometimes the craziest sounding ideas end up being the best. High-quality butter in coffee and tea drinks is actually not a new idea. Adding butter to your matcha creates a creamy goodness that rivals the best milk-based lattes. As a nutrient rich fat, it quells your appetite and keeps you from reaching for sugary morning snacks (matcha donuts, anyone?). Grass-fed butter has high amounts of CLA fatty acids which have been shown to boost metabolism and help you lose weight. You may think you’re ingesting more calories than you typically do but it’s the type of calories that matter here, not the quantity. Grass-fed butter is also higher in Omega-3 fatty acids, an essential fatty acid found in many super foods, than its grain-fed counterpart.

If you’re dairy-free, you can still enjoy Bulletproof Matcha. Ghee is often used as a replacement for butter for people with dairy sensitivities and contains little to no milk proteins. It is very similar to and often used interchangeably with clarified butter, the only real difference being how they are prepared. Clarified butter has the milk solids removed whereas ghee is boiled slowly to break them down. So for all of you with dairy restrictions, rest assured you can still enjoy this bulletproofed version of a matcha latte.

Check out the full recipe below for the Superpower Matchaful latte, which has the effect of a morning wake up call that won’t leave you reaching for the snooze button. Add a teaspoon of honey or agave nectar to give it just the right amount of sweetness. Along with the energy boosting benefits that you all know and love, bulletproofing your matcha latte is a healthy, flavorful alternative to a carb-heavy pastry and coffee.

The Bulletproof Matcha Latte

Ingredients

½ to 1 teaspoon Matchaful Jade Grade matcha
1 to 2 tablespoons pure organic coconut oil
1 to 2 tablespoons pure organic unsalted butter or Ghee
1 cup of fresh, filtered water
1 teaspoon of organic agave or organic honey (optional)

Directions
Heat water to just below boiling (around 200 degrees Fahrenheit).
Combine your hot water, Matchaful matcha, coconut oil and butter in a blender or food processor.

Blend until frothy and foamy, about 20-30 seconds. No blender? Simply melt your butter first, and whisk everything very well or put all the contents into a shaker bottle and shake vigorously. *be careful blending or shaking near boiling contents in an airtight container as the steam can expand rapidly, creating a hot mess.

Pour into a cup, press pause on your day, and slowly savor your Bomb-Stopping Matcha.

Yields 1 cup or 8oz.
